| Sycamore Creek is
an affiliate of KidsHope USA! ONE makes all the difference.
KidsHope USA is a national mentoring
organization, which pairs one church with one elementary
school. Each volunteer church mentor is paired with one
elementary school child, and meets with that child once each
week throughout the school year. For more information about
this amazing program, please visit
www.kidshopeusa.com.
Consistent one-on-one mentoring relationships have been proven
to positively affect both learning and self-esteem—for both the
child and the adult mentor. KidsHope USA adds a third component
in order to enrich the mentoring relationship, a volunteer
prayer partner. This individual, while playing more of a
“behind the scenes” role, is no less important than the mentor.
The prayer partner makes a serious commitment to praying for
both the mentor and the mentee, and for their relationship.
Timeline:
November 11-13: Program Director Training (Marcy Bishop Kates will attend)
November & December: Mentor Recruitment - Student (mentee) referrals received from teachers
Last week of December: Matches determined
Early January : Mentor Training
January: Mentor matches will begin the 2nd or 3rd week of
school.
We’d like everyone in
the Sycamore Creek Church family to have the opportunity to
play a part in this new program. The most obvious need is for
individuals who can commit approximately one hour per week to
be mentors. The next need is prayer partners for each “match”
relationship to keep both the mentor and the child in their
prayers and to provide spiritual support for the mentor.
In addition, in order
to provide high quality materials for mentors and mentees, we
have opportunities to sponsor KidsHope tote bags for use during
the mentoring hour, and/or shirts for the mentors and the
mentee
children.
